This year’s SPAR Wheelchair Wednesday initiative achieved its objective of handing over the 1 000th wheelchair of the campaign during an official ceremony at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Port Elizabeth last week.
At the final function Nelson Mandela Bay entrepreneur Lindelwa Dabaza, who lost her sight at the age of 12, delivered an inspiring message.
Nelson Mandela Bay executive mayor Mongameli Bobani also gave a keynote address.
This year 180 wheelchairs were donated, which took the Association for Persons with Physical Disabilities Nelson Mandela Bay past the 1 000 mark.
Another highlight in 2019 was the inclusion of more schools in the campaign. There were also 41 companies involved, with a total of 182 people participating.
