SPAR Eastern Cape’s Wheelchair Wednesday initiative has made a big impact in Port Elizabeth’s Zethu Soya’s life by giving her access to new places through the donation of a wheelchair.
The Association for Persons with Physical Disabilities (APD) seamstress, who was born with polio, said since receiving a wheelchair in 2013, her life had changed dramatically.
Previously she could not go to all the shops as the distance between some of the stores was too much for her to manage. It has also made attending church and getting to her local clinic easier.
For this year’s initiative, organisers are aiming to have donated 1 000 wheelchairs to those in need since its inception in 2012.
