The SPAR Wheelchair Wednesday campaign has helped Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) improve facilities at the Port Elizabeth airport to make it more wheelchair-friendly.
When Airfield Services Manager Selvin Meyer and colleague Bulelwa Bloko were involved in the campaign several years ago they noticed various factors that made everyday tasks difficult for those living with disabilities.
This inspired the company to make a number of changes at the airport, which are discussed in this video.
During this month’s Wheelchair Wednesday campaign, volunteers from businesses, the municipality and schools spend four hours in a wheelchair to experience the difficulties those with mobility difficulties have to face.
