Shoppers in the Kouga Municipality will have access to a diverse and extensive retail option after the grand opening of SUPERSPAR Village on Main in Humansdorp on Thursday.
Neatly positioned in Main Street of the Eastern Cape town, about 70 kilometres west of Port Elizabeth, the newest SUPERSPAR in the Eastern Cape has been a long time coming.
Owner Richard Moolman, also the man behind SUPERSPAR Village Square in nearby St Francis Bay, said they had been wanting to expand their operations for some time.
An opportunity presented itself amid unfortunate circumstances when a shop burnt down in Humansdorp and they put in an offer to purchase the property, which he said was “quite a sizeable piece of land”.
“We wanted to set up a SUPERSPAR outlet, which requires at least a 300 square-metre property”.
Moolman said they had decided on the SUPERSPAR option because they wanted to provide a “memorable shopping experience” for customers with varying needs.
“It doesn’t matter whether someone comes in to spend R10 or R1 000, we want to make sure they go away satisfied with the experience.”
Ensuring they had happy customers was the best way to grow their trade, he explained.
“I feel it’s something that this community deserves and we feel it will work well for all parties.
“We believe there is a demand for this level of store and it will cater for customers who just want to buy items in a supermarket environment, as well as those who may want to purchase goods on a bulk scale.”
He said the opening had gone extremely well and that there had been “a great vibe in the store” amid a lot of fanfare.
The location, Moolman observed, was a key factor in achieving a high rate of trade.
“Main Street is a very busy area so we think being based here will work very well for us.
“Having considered this sort of expansion for a while, we are really excited about the future and are looking forward to our engagement with this section of the community in the region.”
He added that the store’s operating hours would be between 7am and 7pm on Mondays to Saturdays and from 7am to 6pm on Sundays.
“The TOPS outlet, which is part of our operations, will be open between 9am and 7pm on Mondays to Saturdays and from 9am to 6pm on Sundays.”
Moolman said they would have regular in-store specials following the launch.
“We also have reasonable parking space and have asked taxis not to enter this area, so there should be sufficient bays for our customers.”
