SPAR Eastern Cape’s STOP Plastic Campaign was a major focus at the “Imagine … there’s No Plastic” Trade Show held at The Boardwalk Convention Centre on August 23.
Over 100 of SPAR’s loyal suppliers as well as owners and managers from 102 of the 120 outlets in the province attended the event.
Guests were greeted with a plastic-waste heap and trees with plastic packets for leaves in a bid to raise awareness about the dangers plastic poses to the environment.
It wasn’t all about pollution. Associates and stakeholders got the opportunity to taste new products, experience new launches and engage with one another in a social setting.
However, harrowing video footage of the dangers of plastic pollution was shown at the event. Employees from Bayworld also set up an interactive stand where they explained the work they do to educate the public about ocean pollution.
The Waste Trade team showed how they, in collaboration with a team from Noziqhamo and Eye Candy, sort through plastic, cardboard, CSD bottles and cans to make ornaments, trinkets, caps, designer bags and other useful items.
At the conclusion of the event beneficiaries from the Missionvale Care Centre received a consignment of donated supplies to feed and treat the less fortunate, courtesy of the SPAR suppliers.
