The National Senior Women’s Golf Tournament celebrated its 25th birthday when the event took place at St Francis Links from May 13 to 16.
The event has grown in leaps and bounds. This year 208 players participated in two divisions, up from just 60 in the first edition in 1994, hosted by Fancourt.
The players competed as four-ball teams on the first day. They played in an alliance format on the two courses, the St Francis Bay Links and Golf Club, two each from the Silver and Bronze divisions.
On the second day the players were split into each division. The event unfolded successfully, with Boland’s Maggie Minnie defeating Southern Cape’s Sonja Bland by two shots in the final.
The event was a huge success, with SPAR sponsoring some of the prizes to mark the occasion.
